Montgomery County Ranked in Top 5% of Healthiest Counties in the US

Montgomery County has been ranked in the top five percent of healthiest counties in the Unites States for 2020 by US News & World Report. Out of 2,884 counties, Montgomery County ranked 140, Chester County ranked 168, and Bucks County ranked 292. The study covers counties and county-equivalents like Louisiana parishes, the District of Columbia, and census areas in Alaska.

US News & World Report worked with independent experts and the University of Missouri Extension Center for Applied Research and Engagement Systems, which collected and analyzed the data. The Aetna Foundation was involved in funding the project.

Counties were evaluated on the basis of 84 metrics in ten categories. Individual weights were assigned to each category:

  • Population Health 14.2%
  • Equity  12.23%
  • Education  2.15%
  • Economy 11.1%
  • Housing  9.5%
  • Food and Nutrition 8.8%
  • Environment 8.6%
  • Public Safety 8.5%
  • Community Vitality 7.6%
  • Infrastructure 7.5%
Though Montgomery County’s ranking is high, it fell from last year’s rank of 110. The top-ranked county in the US is Los Alamos County, New Mexico. Second on the list is Douglas County, Colorado.
